Alberto Arons de Carvalho has a PhD in Communication Sciences by Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, NOVA, and a Bachelor in Law by the Faculty of Law, University of Lisbon. He was a lecturer in the Communication Sciences Department at Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, NOVA, between 1981 and 1995 and between 2002 and 2016. He was Secretary of State for the Media between 1995 and 2002, and a Member of Parliament from 1975 to 1983, from 1987 to 1995 and from 2002 to 2009. He was a journalist for the newspapers República (1974/5) and Luta (1975/6) and member of the Press Council (in 1975 and between 1985 and 1988) and of the Information Councils for the Press (1977-80) and for the radio RDP (1980-84). He was vice-president of the Regulatory Council of ERC (Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social – Regulatory Body for the Media) between 2012 and 2017. He is a published author in the field of the media.
