  • Associate Professor in the International Relations Department at Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa, Brígida Brito holds a PhD (2005, ISCTE), and a Master (1998, ISCTE) in African Studies, a Bachelor degree in Sociology (1992, Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa), as well as a Research Fellowship (2011, ISCTE) in African Studies.
  • She lectures the course units “Contemporary World”, “Environment and International Relations” and International Cooperation” in the Bachelor Program in International Relations, participates in the course on “Transnational Social Dynamics” in the Master Program in International Relations and in the “Research Seminar”, in the PhD Program in International Relations. Geopolitics and Geoeconomics.
  • Since 2010, she is the deputy director of the editorial board of JANUS.net, e-journal of International Relations, and member of the board of the research centre OBSERVARE, Observatório de Relações Exteriores, Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa.
  • She is also a member of the Scientific Council of Universidade Autónoma de Lisboa.
  • Brígida Brito is a consultant for several NGOs in midterm and final assessment of development projects funded by the European Union (Instituto Marquês de Valle Flôr, Associação Portuguesa de Educação Ambiental, Mar, Ambiente e Pesca Artesanal, Acção para o Desenvolvimento, Artissal) in Portugal, Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Sao Tomé and Príncipe, in social and environmental fields (environmental education, food safety, access to drinking water and tourism).
  • She has also participated in activities on cooperation for development with international organizations and bilateral cooperation programs, such as: a) International Labour Organization (Bureau Internacional do Trabalho – BIT/OIT, Program STEP-Portugal, and Centro Informático de Aprendizagem e de Recursos para a Inclusão Social, CIARIS), as content expert in distance training courses for Mozambique and Cape Verde; b) partnership between the World Bank and the Finance Ministry of Sao Tomé and Principe – Programa de Apoio aos Sectores Sociais; c) International Organization for Migrations, Portuguese mission, in the projects “Awareness Raising and Information Strategy for People In Need of International Protection”; “Programa de Retorno e Reintegração de Nacionais Africanos Qualificados 1995-99”; and “Migrações e Economia: para uma Optimização de Mais Valias Económicas das Mulheres Migrantes nos Estados Membros da União Europeia”; d) training and refresher courses for social workers, within a cooperation program between the Cooperation Department of the Portuguese Work Ministry and the Public Administration Ministry of Sao Tome and Principe.
  • She has participated in many national and international scientific meetings as a speaker and has assisted in the organization of theme scientific events. She has authored papers, conference proceedings, books and book chapters.
  • She was a researcher in the Centro de Estudos Africanos (1999-2011), having co-coordinated the research strand on Development and International Cooperation and coordinated the international and multidisciplinary research team in a project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
